A PILOT INITIATIVE IN EASTIE WITH EAST BOSTON MAIN STREETS

Our mission is to breathe new life into local communities by strategically placing engaging sculptures, vibrant murals, and interactive artworks in our Main Streets.

By doing so, we directly empower businesses, attract a surge of foot traffic, and fuel economic growth. Join us in creating a visually stunning EAST BOSTON that celebrates the arts and propels businesses to thrive in a more beautiful, vibrant, and economically prosperous environment.

Our Work

“I definitely would recommend working with East Boston Main Streets to other businesses. It’s a no-brainer. I would say it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. The people care about the community and live within it and understand what the community needs.”

East Boston Main Streets (EBMS) aims to create a vibrant business district by initiating private and public improvements, promoting commerce, and supporting efforts to improve the quality of life for all who live, work and do business in East Boston. Founded in 1995, EBMS is a nonprofit community improvement organization serving the diverse and densely populated Boston neighborhood of East Boston, with a focus on Maverick and Central Squares. During its 22 year history, EBMS has utilized the nationally established Main Street Four Point Approach to become an instrumental force in working to build relationships among business owners, residents, developers, and the City, in order to contribute to the physical and economic development of the neighborhood.

“They brought my ideas to life. They built on my ideas and made them so much better than what I imagined. So different than experiences I’ve had in the past. They were really there to help me. It was genuine. I really felt supported. They are very conscious and respectful of our culture.”

What We Do

EBMS provides support to strengthen our neighborhood’s locally-owned businesses, improve streetscapes, and build community via promoting the neighborhood’s assets to those who live, work, and visit East Boston.

Specifically We Focus On:

Help Businesses Grow

We help our small and micro-businesses grow and thrive by providing technical assistance and business support. This includes connecting businesses to programs that provide help with business planning, customer acquisition, inventory systems, marketing, English language learning for business owners, and more.

Promote the Neighborhood

We promote the East Boston neighborhood via relationship and community building among businesses, residents, and visitors. Examples include our signature events: Taste of Eastie, Eastie Week, Eastie Shines, Countdown to Kindergarten

Physical Improvements

We work to create physical improvements to the business district (East Boston’s ‘squares’) that makes the area welcoming to businesses, residents, and visitors. This includes storefront renovations to improve the look of businesses, as well as streetscape improvements like wayfinding signs, tree pits, and plantings.
